Triple Silver Ethiopian cross necklace

Triple Silver Ethiopian cross necklace

  • Three handmade silver crosses on bright pink cord
  • Each pendant is 5.5 grammes of solid silver
  • Ethiopian Christians have worn neck crosses for over 1,600 years as a symbol of their faith. The cross was suspended around the neck by a cotton blue cord called a “mateb” which was received at baptism, we chose to replace this with neon pink.  The crosses are usually named from the region that they originate and this necklace features crosses from three sacred Ethiopian cities, Axum, Gondar and Lalibella.
  • Axum Cross from the northern Axum province named after the "Kingdom of Aksum" which was referred to in medieval times as "Ethiopia". This capital city was the first place in Ethiopia to adopt a new religion, Christianity. According to the Old Testament, The Queen of Sheba was born in Axum but travelled to Israel to meet King Solomon. They had a son named Menelik, who later became the first emperor of Ethiopia.
  • Lalibela Cross is from the northern Lalibela province. Lalibela is one of the holiest cities in Ethiopia and is the center of pilgrimage for much of the country.
  • Gondar cross from the Northern city which was founded in the year 1635.
  • This is a really unique necklace combining religious history and beautiful silver pendants.
